Okay, I’m a bit late with the reporting of our halloween party – seeing as it’s not halloween anymore! But if you see the rest of my backlog…. *cough*
( I’m sorry, Siera, I didn’t manage Tuesday! How’s Saturday? )
I’ve never celebrated Halloween before. And I still didn’t really, not in the traditional sense. I didn’t dress up, nor did I go trick or treating. But I jump at every opportunity to host a dinner party, and Halloween was one of those reasons. What was even better was the fact that I could had a go at making scary, gory food! Not that my dining partners were overly enthusiastic about that…
I even got around to doing a little teeny bit of decorating. The table was lined with a blood splattered table cloth, and with spiders and centipedes (of the plastic variety, of course) having free roam of the table. I pulled some spider web over my front door, and got a plastic cauldron for the punch to sit in. Unfortunately, no photos for you guys because I completely forgot.
Let’s have a quick look at what went on the table, shall we?
Appetizers

We had chilli con carne as part of the appetizers, and I had wanted to bake red coloured bread to go with it. Unfortunately, it turned out pink instead. Whoops.

At least the Guacamole turned out amazing! Recipe was from The Cook’s Book, but somehow, I still can’t get it to taste quite as awesome as Anna‘s Guacamole. Same recipe, but different magic touch, obviously.

And the last dish for appetizers – devilled eggs! How easy are these to make and how amazingly quickly they disappear! I can inhale these babies in two minutes flat. Just don’t think about the cholesterol levels. I cracked the eggs after they were cooked and left them in coloured water (red, obviously) to get red veins all over the white eggs. Think herbal tea eggs, but with red water instead. I was trying to get a bit of halloween spirit into the eggs too!
Mains

Celina brought little ghostie rice balls! How adorable are these. Very cute, and definitely very yummy. I really should have brought out the wasabi and soy sauce on the night, but I completely forgot in the midst of prepping and dishing up the other mains which were….

Chicken meat balls, made to look like eyes! Though they ended up looking more like …. well. Have a bit of imagination and you will get there. If anybody is interested in the recipe, I’ll post it. They were super yummy!
The last main was sausage rolls – or I rather call it : Intestines.

I might have overdone the red food colouring here though. Hur de dum. I didn’t end up plating this as is, as the girls were already squeamish over my preparation photo. But it’s really just a very, very long sausage roll, curled up to look like intestines. So I chopped it up before I brought it to the table.
Dessert
And then it was dessert time! By this point, many of us were already keeling over. But we had to persevere. There was still a flood of sweets to come!
First up was Violet’s contribution. The poor girl, everytime she comes over, I say the same thing : bring macarons. I really do adore her macarons!

Yummy as always, love love love!
She even piped faces onto some of them:

How cute are these! They reminded me of the gingerbread man from Shrek – adorable!

Celina also brought vanilla cupcakes with such adorable faces on them! They were yummy, she says they were dry, I disagree with that!

What halloween can be complete without Pumpkin pie? The beautiful Siera brought pumpkin pie and while we did forget the whipped cream, this was still incredibly yummy. Beautifully soft and brimming with spices. Yum!
And last but not least, we had raspberry with chocolate tofu in the pumpkin bucket and lemon and lime with raspberry jelly in the cauldron!

Phew. That was a long dinner. It was very good fun, and some of the girls did dress up and looked real spiffy! I didn’t dress up, but my kitties did! Satin was an Angel and Tinsel was a Devil. I’ll show you pics next time , promise ^_~
What did you get up to for halloween?

I always thought violet is good at nails/deco and stuff like that! Never thought she would make such beautiful macarons!
Your sausage rolls really freaked me out. I should take that as a complement but Halloween themed food are suppose to be freaky.
What a beautiful scary Halloween feast!! I would be a bit afraid of the intestines though… but it’s very cool, lol.

The intestines are amazing. So horrendously gross but I bet once you had a bite you would be digging in for more gutsy grossness.
